How We Got Started

Floto's journey began back in 2003 when Joe Floto returned from Italy with a stunning leather travel bag. Everywhere he went, people couldn't help but ask, "Where did you get that bag?" This sparked the idea to establish Floto, a brand specializing in Italian hand-stained leather that is metal-free, sustainable, and safe for everyone. The centuries-old Tuscan tanning tradition we follow produces vibrant leather that is both easy to work with and ages beautifully.

What Makes Us Unique

Our passion lies in crafting new styles from supple full-grain leather, which means we step into the workshop every day with a smile. The Tortona Backpack boasts comfortable, adjustable shoulder straps, 2 cargo pockets, and umbrella straps. Meanwhile, the Livorno Backpack, made from semi-gloss full-grain leather, is available in 4 colors. The Milano Pack has been a bestseller for years due to its slim, lightweight design with ample capacity.

A Typical Day at Floto

On an average day, a Floto leather bag will pass through 28 different workbenches at our Florence factory for tasks like cutting, skiving, gluing, hand-stitching, and more. We take great pride in our work, putting in long hours while also finding time to enjoy life. Our routine involves arriving early, taking a leisurely lunch and nap, working into the evening, and winding down with wine and pasta for dinner. This is what it takes to create a Floto bag, and this is our typical day at the factory.

The Venezia Knapsack, crafted in Italy from full-grain leather and brass hardware, is a testament to superior quality. Vegetable-tanned in Tuscany, the full-grain leather develops rich color tones with a semi-gloss finish that prevents stains and softens beautifully over time. Two zip gusset compartments and a middle carryall compartment offer ample tech storage for 12" laptops. The bag measures: 12" h x 11" w x 5" l and weighs 2.5 lbs.

Interior Features

The interior of the Venezia features durable 8oz cotton duck canvas lining, 3 compartments, a zip pocket, smartphone pocket, and 2 pen holders. The bag is secured with a magnetic flap closure and equipped with 2 gusset zipper compartments. All Floto leather bags are handcrafted by skilled artisans in Italy using sustainable and metal-free tanning methods.
